Fire

"Fire has pronounced impacts on natural and managed ecosystems. It reduces organic matter to ash and releases nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium and other elements and in the process stimulates new growth. It exposes the mineral soil, stimulates the germination of selective seeds, encourages erosion, and changes the character of the landscape." (Guam an Island on Fire)
