New Hire - Step 3
Message From the Director
On behalf of the Natural Resources Conservation
Service (NRCS), it is my pleasure to welcome you to the agency and to the
Pacific Islands - West!
The Geography of Hope is a booklet that you will find in
your new employee package. The Geography of Hope will provide a strong
foundation for understanding NRCS's role in supporting conservation. The
fundamental mission of NRCS remains to help people serve as stewards of the land
and natural resources. NRCS staff throughout the nation are a committed, highly
skilled and diverse workforce that provides quality service to all who need and
use the land.
Your supervisor will explain your responsibilities,
rights and privileges. Permanent employees, assisted by their supervisors, will
develop a training plan based on job description, personal needs, and
performance standards. As you progress in your training, the plan will be
revised to continue your professional development.
As a federal employee, you represent the United States
Government and shall be held to a very high standard of conduct and ethics. Our
Agency prides itself on providing our customers with the highest quality of
science based conservation technical assistance. Technical and administrative
staff alike, we all must meet these high standards of performance and conduct.
Mutual understanding, cooperation, consideration, and courtesy between you and
your associates, your supervisor, our conservation partners, and the people we
serve should be the guiding principles during your employment with the Natural
Resources Conservation Service. You should not hesitate to fully discuss your
interests and concerns with your supervisor.
Again, we welcome you to the Natural Resources
Conservation Service and wish you every success and happiness in your work.
Sincerely,
Lawrence T. (Larry) Yamamoto
